Randomness

Only not really. Some randomness and some not.

First bit of randomness:

Those of you that have followed this journal for any length of time know I really don't like cleaning. You could say I hate it, in fact (so much so I almost got evicted recently). Y'all might remember my mother coming over to help me get it cleaned up. I've recently started slacking on it, again, for which I blame my new job.

BUT! I need some work done in the apartment and so have forced myself to start cleaning again. I started with the main areas: I cleaned off the table where I put my purse, picked up the trash all over the living room and, most importantly, I've done all the laundry. It's folded and put away, or hung up. Yes, I'm one of those people that piles the clean clothes on top of the dryer or on the couch.

ETA: So there are some towels and sheets on the coffee table that need to be put away, but everything else already has been.

So, yay, me!

Second bit of randomness:

I tried to make a post from the computer in the break room at work last week but for some reason it didn't take, even though I got the 'successful post' alert.

Anyway, what I wanted to say was: I watch this show on Lifetime called Army Wives and they introduced a new character this season played by Kellie Martin.

Her character is an Army Captain working in Intelligence. And she's gay.

During a 'conflict' she was injured and so has been nominated for the Bronze Star.

There are currently two Generals at the post due to a post having to be closed down after a hurricane. The one from the closed post has been quoted as being anti-gay. Even though DADT has been repealed there are still people who feel homosexuals shouldn't be allowed to serve. One of these men is a Major in charge of the press release for the ceremony.

When he brings her sexual preference to the attention of this General (he wanted to take away her nomination), the response surprised me. He told the Major that his personal feelings don't matter, he swore to support every decision made by the Army and if they say that homosexuals can serve, then by God, he'll stand by that.

I was happy to see them dealing with this issue in a mature and realistic way.

And now the not so randoms:

Back in the fall I posted about TV shows I'm watching. I'll go through the list in the same order and give an update, if I'm still watching or if it's been canceled.

ABC:

Charlie's Angels - Just as much fun as the original and the movies. And this Bosley is H-O-T-T! Canceled. Which was a major surprise to me. I thought the show was doing well.

Pan Am - Set in 1963, it follows several Pan Am stewardesses (as they were called back then) as they try and find a place in the male dominated world. Back in 1963 there were very few jobs that a married woman could have and being a stewardess wasn't one of them so all the women are single.

Maggie is played by Christina Ricci and is a no-nonsense kind of girl. She refuses to allow a passenger to molest her just because he thinks he can since he paid $350 for his ticket to Paris, France. She also hates having to wear a girdle despite it being part of her uniform and doesn't think she should have to weigh in before every flight.

Laura is played by Margot Robbie and is a debutant who left her husband at the altar.

Kate is played by Kelli Garner and is Laura's sister and is 'a spy' for the CIA. I used the quotes because I don't think the CIA would 'recruit' a civilian. Kate is also extremely jealous of Laura and her relationship with their mother.

Colette is played by Karine Vanasse and is French and had a brief (six months at least) affair with a married man. Only she didn't know he was married when they started the affair until him and his family ended up being passengers on one of her flights. The wife called her on the affair and I couldn't help but think about something that I heard on another show: when a man strays the woman he cheated on almost always blames the other woman. Sometimes it's warranted and sometimes it's not. In the case of Colette it's not. She had no way of knowing until he showed up at the airport with his family in tow. Canceled? No word yet.

CBS:

2 Broke Girls - Vic and I are loving this show. I love the Odd Couple feel and the two leads play off each other just perfectly. My favorite line was said by Max, played by Kat Dennings, to Caroline, played by Beth Behrs: I keep forgetting you're Equestrian Barbie and you come with a horse. And later in the same episode: I keep forgetting we have a horse. Still going strong. In fact, their season finale was Monday night.

Unforgettable - I found it totally forgettable. I like Poppy Montgomery. Sort of. I didn't feel she was a good fit to play JK Rowling in the biopic of her life but I did enjoy her in Lying to be Perfect. And of course I've liked Dylan Walsh since Nip/Tuck. But for whatever reason, I just couldn't get into this show. Since I only watched the first episode, I don't really care.

How to be a Gentleman - Fairly fun Odd Couple type show. Two differences with 2 Broke Girls is it's with men and they don't live together. But still funny. Canceled after just a few episodes.

Person of Interest - is intriguing. It stars James Caviezel as a former military man, if they actually said what branch he was with, I missed it, who is hired to help save people that a computer says are about to be the victim of a crime or the person committing the crime. I ended up getting [personal profile] jetpack_angel into it.

FOX:

Terra Nova - It starts in the future where the human race has completely destroyed the atmosphere of Earth. Some scientists found a rip in time and sent a probe through thinking they'd find it when the time stream caught up to their present. Except it didn't happen so they figure it went back to an alternate time stream. They then built a time bridge and started sending people through. Military first, of course. Followed by doctors and other scientist types. They even have a lottery to determine which civilians get to go.

The main family consists of the mother (a doctor), the father (a cop), a son (about 18), a daughter (about 15 maybe 16) and another daughter (2 when the show begins). Because of the deteriorating living conditions there is a limit of two children per family. They get raided and hide the baby but she gets scared and starts crying. The father takes a swing at one of the other cops when he goes to pick his baby up and ends up being sentenced to six years in jail. Two years later his wife helps him escape because she's been picked to go through the bridge in what's being called the tenth pilgrimage. Word is that FOX has decided to not order a second season but it is being shopped around to other networks.

New Girl - Tried it despite not liking Zooey Deschanel. Didn't really find it all that funny. Her character is just a tad too over the top for me. Wishing it would get canceled. I'm tired of having to see commercials for it when I watch my other FOX shows.

NBC:

The Playboy Club - I don't know about other heterosexual women but I've always been curious about Playboy and The Playboy Clubs. I remember when the last one closed and all the news coverage about it.

The show takes place in 1963 and inside the first club in Chicago. So far I'm loving it. Of course it could be due to how true to the times, and how Hugh Hefner ran his club, and the four male leads.

Nick Dalton (Eddie Cibrian - CSI: Miami) is a lawyer who is dating one of the Bunnies, has mob ties and just announced his intention to run for state's attorney.

Maureen (Amber Heard) is a newly hired Bunny who has caught Nick's eye, and the ire of the bunny he's dating. Hugh picks her to be the first Bunny to grace the cover.

Carol-Lynne (Laura Benanti) is the Bunny that Nick's dating. She was one of the first Bunnies. She's getting older and convinces Hugh to make her House Mother when the manager fires her for stealing the personnel files of the other Bunnies.

Janie (Jenna Dewan-Tatum) is on the run from her abusive husband and dating the bartender.

Brenda (Naturi Naughton) is a Bunny of color and wants to be the first Playmate of color.

Alice (Leah Renee Cudmore) is a lesbian who's married to a gay man.

Max (Wes Ramsey - Charmed and CSI: Miami) is dating Janie and wants to marry her.

Pearl (Jenifer Lewis) is the Bunny's seamstress.

Billy Rosen (David Krumholtz - Numbers) is the manager of the club.

Sean Beasley (Sean Maher - Firefly) is gay and married to Alice.

Canceled. Somehow I missed that there was some controversy surrounding this show. All because it was about The Playboy Clubs? That doesn't make any sense to me. It's not like this is 1960. It's the 21st century. Sure there were rumors that the clubs were actually sex clubs but as far as I know that was never confirmed.

Up All Night - is about two new parents who were the type that partied really hard almost every night and are finding it difficult to make the transition. Reagan (Christina Applegate) is a TV producer for her best friend, Ava (Maya Rudolph). Ava is very self-centered and doesn't get that her best friend/producer now has a child and that means her priorities have changed.

What I love most about this show, other than how funny it is, is that Chris (Will Arnett) decided to put his career on hold to stay home with the baby, Amy, and let Reagan go back to work. This one has been moved to a new night opposite something else I watch. I was watching it on OnDemand but have since stopped.

Whitney - is about a woman who lives with her boyfriend in New York. Whitney is a hoot and I have yet to watch an episode and not laugh my ass off. Still watching it.

Prime Suspect - Maria Bello plays a tough as nails New York homicide detective who was recently transferred to another precinct where the team is all men who have issues with a woman coming in. They regularly 'steal' her cases and purposely keep her out of the loop, never mind that she has (so far) been able to solve the case just by actually paying closer attention to the evidence.

What I love most about this show is that Jane and her boyfriend/husband (it hasn't been said if they're married or not) are trying to convince his ex to let his son spend the night at their place. The ex is a total bitch about every little thing, like the fact that Jane's a cop and so brings her gun home with her and has a gun safe (which is kept tightly locked and in the back of her closet). One night at dinner Jane has finally reached her limit with this woman's bullshit and calls her on it. In another episode when the ex makes noise about not letting the son stay because the trash compactor in the hall isn't locked (I don't live in NYC so I could be wrong but I do believe the compactor has to be kept unlocked so that the residents can throw away their trash), Jane questions her about the safety of her slash windows which are easily opened from the outside. Loved this show. From what I can tell it has been canceled, despite it been critically acclaimed.

That's it for the new shows and now on to the returning ones.

How I Met Your Mother Still watching it.

Mike and Molly Still watching it.

Hawaii Five-O Still watching.

NCIS Still watching

Glee Still watching.

Criminal Minds Still watching.

CSI Stopped watching. I had grown tired of the show last season but was hanging on because of George Eads and Marg Helgenberger. The final straw for me was her final episode. I didn't feel it was a proper final episode for her as an actress or her character. Don't even miss it.

The Big Bang Theory Still watching.

Fringe Still watching.

Supernatural Still watching.

CSI: NY Still watching, although Gary Sinise seems to think it's getting canceled.

The Amazing Race Still watching.

CSI: Miami Stopped watching. Vic and I were watching one Sunday night and at about 9:30 realized we had no idea what was going on. I actually don't miss it.

There are other shows I'm watching that aren't on any networks and they're too numerous to even try to list here.
