logans_girl2001: (John WTF?)
A couple of weeks ago I discovered a charge on my bank account from a company called GLD MyScore. I Googled it and discovered it's a 'credit reporting site'. But it's not actually. In fact it's such a big scam that there is an entire forum dedicated to people who have been targeted by them.

According to the posts they get your banking information or, as in most cases, your debit/credit card number through malware/adware. My new laptop came with an adware called Trezza which I cannot uninstall, although I did finally manage to 'turn it off'. I'm afraid that that's where this company got my card number from.

Since most of the posts I read stated that even if you had one or more charges removed they would continue to charge you, I cancelled my card. When my new one arrived it's one of those new chip and pin cards.

I used it for the first time this weekend at Walmart and was surprised that it didn't ask for my pin. It doesn't seem very secure to me. I mean if someone was to get my card, they could use it without any issues.

I don't know anything about these cards other than what I've read in posts on [livejournal.com profile] customers_suck. Is there anyone who knows if this is normal? I thought the chip and pin cards were supposed to be more secure but not asking for my pin number doesn't make it more secure in my opinion. In fact it makes it less secure.
