If you have no idea what the title means, let me explain:
A year or so ago, Vic read The Hunger Games trilogy. I remember her explaining the book to me but I didn't really pay attention. Then we began seeing commercials for the movie so I bought the first book, finished reading it yesterday and I highly recommend it, in preparation of going to the movie.
The plot of the book is that somewhere in the future, America is no more and is now called Panem. The 'country' now consists of The Capitol and thirteen 'districts'. Or rather there were thirteen districts before they all revolted. At the end of the war, only twelve remained because The Capitol destroyed the thirteenth one 'as an example'.
To help remind the districts that they should be 'grateful', every year The Capitol has all the children between the ages of twelve and eighteen put their name in a bowl and one boy and one girl is chosen to be a tribute. It's considered a great honor, according to The Capitol, to be so chosen. Each 'reaping' (what they call it when the names are picked) starts with the phrase in the subject line.
The twenty-four tributes are then transported to The Capitol where they are to fight to the death, until only one remains alive, in an arena for the enjoyment of The Capitol.
I won't say anymore to avoid spoiling those that haven't read the book/are planning on seeing the movie. (Go! Go now! Well, not right now but soon, m'kay?)
So, since Vic had a half day due to exams at school and I had a half day due to flex hours, we went to the 1:15 showing today.
I knew going in that there were going to be things changed around and-or totally left out, and I was right. But it wasn't enough to keep me from enjoying it.
